Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR)

About

GNCTR is the University of Alberta’s longest-running engineering vehicle project group, dominating the competition since 1974! Unlike most other project groups, we design and build an entirely new toboggan every year, with a sliding surface made entirely out of concrete. Our annual competition is hosted by a different Canadian city every year, and is attended by universities and technical institutions all across the country. Each school is judged on both their design and team spirit, with the main event consisting of a toboggan drag race, slalom course, and an elimination-style King of the Hill tournament. We take great pride in our hard work and the toboggans we design, but we take an even greater pride in the community that we foster. Working together as a diverse group of concrete enthusiasts, we’ve built a community that is welcoming to both engineers and non-engineers, and a place where people can take part in amazing opportunities with the support of their peers. With weekly builds of our technical display and toboggan, you can take part in carpentry, metal working, and best of all, concrete pours. As a part of an integrated community of engineers, you will develop a network of peers as well as professional connections through interactions with our sponsors and alumni. Come carpe diem, and ski into a better future with us!
