Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference (CCEC)
Something that I never thought I would do is attend a five-day conference focused simply on crazy interesting research in my field in beautiful Vancouver, BC. Last month, I, along with 10 other Chemical Engineering students, were accepted to attend the Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference. There were hundreds of grad students and other researchers presenting on their advancements in the field from all over Canada, and even some extremely well known Chemical engineers presenting on their world changing research. But that being said, this was not the only thing that I enjoyed. I mean the people were incredibly interesting. Our U of A delegation was full of interesting students that are all like-minded, working towards the same thing. It was great to be able to talk to other students in our field about their program offerings and what they were working towards at their own university. For someone looking into graduate school after next year, this was the perfect opportunity to put my foot in the door and start to think about things. I figured out so many things about what I want to do with my future at this conference, as well as what I am passionate about.
I owe a part of the fun and career realization to the ESS for offering me an opportunity that I otherwise would not have had, so for that I am forever grateful. I cannot wait to share what I learned with students and others interested in the work being done in the vast field of Chemical Engineering.
