External Relations Portfolio
The VP External represents the ESS to a number of external groups. They chair the selection committees for delegations to ESS-sponsored conferences and competitions. For more information about position responsibilities and qualifications, see the documents linked in the application form.
Y2Q2 Coordinator
The Y2Q2 Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Y2Q2 director to manage the GEER Week independent team. They will also assist in coordinating Y2Q2 advocacy & organize events to help connect Y2Q2 students throughout the year.
Career Fair Coordinator
The Career Fair Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director of Career Fair with organizing the annual University of Alberta Career Fair. The Coordinator will help organize the set-up/take down of the event as well as help communicate between different sources, as the director needs.
Competitions Coordinator
The Competitions Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director of Competitions with organizing the annual University of Alberta Engineering Competition (UAEC). Tasks will include organizing workshop sessions and interdisciplinary case competitions with other faculties and/or clubs under the leadership of the Director of Competitions.
Institutional Outreach Coordinator
The Institutional Outreach Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director of Institutional Outreach with managing transfer relations with other institutions, with the focus being put on those who hold transfer programs to the UofA Engineering Program. They also will assist in managing High School Outreach.
Y2Q2 Director
The Y2Q2 director is responsible for connecting the Y2Q2 students through events and social opportunities. They are in charge of the GEER Week independent team, where they serve the role of the president and appoint a PR representative. They work closely with ERAG to ensure the Y2Q2 students are represented in advocacy.
Director of Career Fair
The Director of Career Fair is responsible for organizing the annual ESS Career Fair and oversees a team of Career Fair Coordinators. Their responsibilities include organizing the Engineering Career Fair, promoting, registering, and sending out packages for the Engineering Career Fair to companies, and providing regular updates to the VP External.
Director of Competitions
The Director of Competitions is responsible for managing the Division of Competitions and oversees a team of Competitions Coordinators. They are responsible for organizing the annual University of Alberta Engineering Competitions (UAEC) and managing delegate teams for Western Engineering Competition (WEC) and Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC). They also coordinate with discipline clubs or other faculty associations to organize case competitions and workshops throughout the year.
Director of Institutional Outreach
The Director of Institutional Outreach is responsible for managing the Division of Institutional Outreach and oversees a team of Outreach Coordinators. They lead relations with other institutions, particularly the first-year transfer schools, and manage high school outreach. Their responsibilities also include sending info to prospective transfer students and arranging tours with students from transfer schools.
