Co-Vice Presidents of Social Events Candidates
Cameryn Patterson (She/Her)
Howdy! My name is Cameryn Patterson, and I am a first year engineering student. This is my first year in Edmonton having grown up in Texas, and having survived my first Canadian winter, I’m excited to get involved with the ESS and the greater Edmonton community
Ashir Anim (He/Him)
Hi there! My name is Ashir Anim, I’m a third year Mechanical Engineering student and I’ve been serving as one of the Directors of Sporting Events within the Social Events portfolio for almost 2 years. I was also part of the Geer Week Directorate this year and I am looking forward to continue my involvement in the Social Events portfolio as one of the Co-Vice Presidents.
Platform
Our Goal for 2025-2026
Enhance engagement and participation in ESS activities and events.
Promote and increase involvement in discipline clubs and project groups.
Organize diverse events that cater to all engineering students, ensuring inclusivity across different interests and backgrounds.
Strengthen collaboration with other student groups by hosting joint events and initiatives.
Provide multiple social platforms for engineering students to expand their networks and create lasting connections.
Advocate for student interests by integrating feedback-driven initiatives into events and activities
Department of Geer Week
Increased General Student Participation
Through better outreach, introducing new events or restructuring existing events we would like to make geer week more dynamic and engaging for all the engineering students.
Better Scheduling
Historically, Geer Week's compact schedule has limited students' ability to attend all events. We aim to restructure the event schedule to enhance accessibility and encourage greater participation
Videography of all the activity during geer week
In collaboration with the Communications portfolio, we aim to produce a filmed recap of Geer Week. As a one-of-a-kind event, this film will serve as a meaningful keepsake for students to look back on and relive their experiences for years to come.
Department of Social Events
Engineering Carnival
We aim to enhance the Engineering Carnival experience by expanding the number of activities and interactive elements. This will create a more vibrant and engaging atmosphere as students explore various club and project group booths.
Continue improving and enhancing existing events
Events like Halloween Party, Glow Party and others have been highly popular and we will try to work on making those events better by incorporating feedback during the transition stage.
Increase the number of Mixers, Trivia Nights and collaborative events
Our goal is to provide more platform for students to socialize, network and unwind from the rigorous engineering courses.
Department of Sporting Events
Increase collaboration with other student groups
With collaborative events, engineering students can increase their network and get more exposure to other clubs and activities while enjoying their favourite sport.
Surveys to make events more student oriented
Surveys will allow students to pick activities they would enjoy, allowing us to curate a more engaging sporting event program.
Continue to grow the eSports division
Over the past two years, we have organised various eSports events, and we will continue building on this progress. Next year, we plan to take it even further by organizing a major eSports tournament, bringing the community together for an exciting and competitive experience.
Department of Y2Q2
Organise ice-breakers and frequent meet-and-greets
By scheduling Y2Q2 events (such as mixers and team building events) earlier in the year, we can decrease the isolation many Y2Q2 students experience and provide them with a supporting and friendly community from the get-go.
Keeping Y2Q2 Students Connected and Engaged
We will closely work to enhance their student experience by regularly updating them on university events and activities they can participate in, providing more opportunities to socialize and engage with the community.
