Co-VP Social Candidates
Hi everyone, we are excited to announce that we are running to be your next VP Social Events in the 2024 ESS elections. Michael Chang (he/him) is in his 4th year of Chemical Engineering (Oilsands) and is one of the current VPs of Social Events of the ESS. Cailynne Weisgerber (she/her) is in her 2nd year of Environmental Engineering and is one of the current Directors of Social Events in the ESS. GEER Week:
General Student Body
Continue to promote GEER Week participation from the general student body and faculty by improving the interest form
GEER Week Scoreboard
Increase competition by re-structuring the scoreboard updating to improve accessibility and accuracy
Revamp Events
Bring back old favorite events, and update current events to modern standards
Improving Venue Capacity, Arrangement, and Accessibility
Ensure that chosen venues will work well for both the event and student body
Judging
Improve descriptors of judging sheets to improve the point system
Social Events:
Continue Running Monthly Events
Offer monthly events to build the Engineering Community Spirit and allow students to make new connections
Increase Collaboration with Faculty Associations and Discipline Clubs
Collaborate with other student organizations to allow students to develop new connections and gain new experiences
Engineering Carnival
Continue to build and improve by expanding to two days, having games and activities, and promoting Project Groups and Discipline Clubs
Y2Q2:
Monthly Events for Y2Q2 Students
Run study nights with snacks to allow Y2Q2 students to build comradery and friendships
Collaboration with Discipline Clubs
Host two information panels with discipline clubs to allow Y2Q2 students to learn more about the various disciplines at the UofA and to build connections and gain mentors
GEER Week Team
Continue to build the Y2Q2 GEER Week team to allow students to get involved and compete under their discipline
Sporting Events:
E-Sports
Continue to build the E-Sports division by offering new ESports events
ESS Sports Tournaments
Offer more sports tournaments for popular sports, such as dodgeball, soccer, and basketball to allow students to participate without long-term commitment
Increase Ski-Trip Accessibility
Hosting “Learn to Ski” events throughout the winter leading up to a 1 - 2 day ski trip to Marmot Basin in collaboration with UBC - Vancouver and UofC.
